Subject: 20103/PhoneLatta/Bridgeport-Stevenson Date: Thu, 4 May 1989 09:49:48 -0500 RESOLUTION NO. 20103 A RESOLUTION URGING THE HONORABLE HAROLD GREEN, UNITED STATES DISTRICT JUDGE, TO LIFT THE LONG DISTANCE RESTRICTIONS ON THE REGIONAL BELL COMPANIES, AND PERMIT THEM TO OFFER LOCAL CALLING FROM THE BRIDGEPORT STEVENSON, ALABAMA AREA INTO THE CHATTANOOGA CALLING AREA. ___________________________ WHEREAS, Bridgeport and Stevenson are located in Jackson County, Alabama, and are not part of the telephone latta, which includes the remaining portion of north Alabama; and WHEREAS, Bridgeport and Stevenson are included in the same telephone latta as Marion, Hamilton, and Bradley Counties in Tennessee, and Walker County, Georgia; and WHEREAS, the people of Bridgeport and Stevenson conduct a majority of their business and trading in the Chattanooga area as opposed to the Huntsville area; and WHEREAS, Bridgeport is located only two miles from the Tennessee state line, and Stevenson is in the local calling area to Bridgeport; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That we hereby urge the Honorable Harold Green, United States District Judge, of the United States District Court, to lift the long distance restrictions on the regional Bell 0C Companies, and permit them to offer local calling from the Bridgeport-Stevenson, Alabama area into the Chattanooga calling area, which all are a part of the same latta band.
